OUR MISSION

To give the gift of sight to all such unfortunate individuals suffering from avoidable blindness in a caring and serene atmosphere by delivering the most successful (qualitative, standardized efficient and cost effective eye care to all in the rural society)
We do this by:
Providing comprehensive eye care services to over 500 villages, treating OPD of 50,000 and 6000 plus surgeries each year.
Conducting outreach eye screening camps in villages and schools for Children on regular basis.
Providing short term training programs for ophthalmic professionals.
Providing community based rehabilitation services for those whose vision cannot be restored or enhanced. With both paying and non-paying services of the Hospital, manages to extend free surgeries and treatment to those who are poor and under privileged in non-paying category by collecting very nominal fees from patients who can afford.

OUR VISION

High Quality Eye Care is our first priority. Since 80% of blindness in India is because of cataract and uncorrected refractive errors, DEF provides this service as a priority. To work as a team in mission mode with a laser sharp focus - to eliminate avoidable blindness to a level that it ceases to be a public health problem for our citizens residing in our 13 districts in AP is our vision.
Our leadership, Passion, Knowledge, Skills, Experience Commitment brought together by like-minded stake-holders are our key strengths to fulfill our vision and mission.

APPROACH

To bring in awareness and to reach-out to the needy, PYN camp teams moves with entire camping accessories in vans to camp sites, villages in both districts on prefixed days.
Basic screening is done at the camp site by qualified Para medical and eye doctors; necessary primary care is provided at site itself.
Patients needing high end treatment, surgeries are brought in the van to the base Hospital.
They are provided accommodation and food free. Pre-operative investigations, medications, surgery, post-operative medication, protective glasses etc. are provided free and they are dropped back to their villages (camp sites from where they were picked up).
Those who are able to afford a nominal fees, are treated at a subsidized tariff, 20% of the general tariff, those funds generated are used to maintain the Hospital and free services.
Post-surgical followups are aligned with next camp visit dates or they are invited to base hospital or they are directed to nearby Vision Centers. With well spread positive word of mouth, now more and more poor and needy patients reach on their own to the base hospital and get treated free.
